THE CRYOSPHERE

Captured over more than 12,000 kilometers travelled on foot in the polar regions, these photos depict the open vastness of a world often void of life whose only features are ones left by erosion or the wind on the ice, and the clouds in the sky. The abstract shapes, reminiscent of paintings, graphic or sculptural art, all but blur the gap between natural and human expression. 

Ethereal and stark forms are etched in the ice or painted in the sky. Art and life: who is imitating whom? The two are in fact profoundly symbiotic: these images remind us of a human spirit in the deepest and most desolate areas of the extreme latitudes, places which had, at times, never seen a human footprint.
